What is STEM?

STEM is short for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Embracing the STEM subjects is essential for students to be able to build the skills that will serve as their tool set for the future. We believe powerful critical thinking and exploration practice commonly used in effective STEM classrooms should allow students to:

  • Ask deep real-world questions
  • Collaborate with their peers
  • Arrive at meaningful conclusions
  • Explore STEM careers

What will my child do in the Innovation Summer Camp?

During the weeklong Innovation Summer Camp, CCSD93 educators will work together to ignite students’ curiosity and get them excited about Innovation in their everyday lives. The Innovation Summer Camp will help kids to achieve today and propel them toward success in college, careers, and citizenship.

Course for Students Entering Grades 2 & 3

Grades 2 & 3: Camp Invention

CCSD93 is partnering again with the National Inventors Hall of Fame to bring Camp Invention’s program, Elevate™ to our district. This is a new curriculum, so it’s perfect for new and returning participants. Students will engage in hands on challenges, discover world changing inventors and build their confidence as creators and inventors. While collaborating and problem solving with peers they will explore the concepts of flight, energy conservation, and design.

Courses for Students Entering Grades 4-8 (Choose ONE)

Grades 4-8: Art Connections & Innovations

Is your child interested in the visual arts? Would they love to make connections to art in the world around them? Then this class is for them! Students will work collaboratively creating, exploring and experimenting with various art materials.

Grades 4 & 5: Engineering and Design Thinking

This camp will utilize lessons developed by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. To become successful entrepreneurs, students will create sketches, build prototypes, design logos and find out how to market products while protecting their intellectual property. They will utilize the district 3-D printers as they collaborate and problem solve with peers to design and create.

Grades 6-8: Invention Project

CCSD93 is partnering again with the National Inventors Hall of Fame to offer Invention Project to our Middle School students. The course promotes 21st century skills including teamwork, communication, collaboration, and creativity. During each session, students will be challenged to imagine new possibilities as they turn designs into prototypes and working inventions while also considering principles of business and entrepreneurship. This curriculum was a huge hit with students when offered during the summer of 2018, so it’s back!

Grades 4-8: Beginning/Intermediate Robotics & Coding Camp

This camp, designed and taught by CCSD93 educators, will allow students to acquire skills to investigate and integrate computer coding and robotics while working collaboratively in teams. It will be personalized and appropriate for beginner and intermediate levels. Learn the basics or be challenged to expand on what you already know! Appropriate for both students new to robotics and those with previous experience.

Grades 4-8: Advanced Robotics & Coding Camp

Is your child confident in his/her robotic and coding skills? Ready for a greater challenge? Advanced Robotics Camp will teach students how to program with SCRATCH to code their own game. After students create their game, they will learn how to create and integrate a robot that they have built in order to control and play the game. Advanced Robotics Camp is for students who previously attended Robotics Camp or participated in a middle school robotics club AND feel confident in their knowledge of coding and building skills.
