District 93 Mentor Program

District 93 is proud to offer the Mentor Program, a supportive initiative designed to help children who may face challenges with academics, social relationships, behavior, or organizational skills. Through this program, district staff members and community volunteers serve as mentors to students who have been referred by a District 93 staff member.

How the Program Works

Students meet with their mentor once a week during lunch and recess, building consistent and positive connections in a relaxed setting. Every mentor has completed a thorough background screening process with the Carol Stream Police Department and has received training from the District Prevention Coordinator to ensure they are prepared to guide and support students.

Each school also has a Site Coordinator, who serves as the point of contact for parents and mentors. The Site Coordinator not only answers questions but also acts as a liaison between parents, the classroom teacher, and the mentor, making sure communication remains strong and supportive.

Purpose of the Mentor Program

The Mentor Program is centered on fostering meaningful connections and encouraging student success. At its heart, the program emphasizes making positive relationships, strengthening social skills, and helping students gain confidence in their school journey.

Goals of the Mentor Program

The overarching goal is to improve students’ trust, well-being, and motivation. By participating, students are given opportunities to strengthen their social and emotional development, improve their attendance and academic potential, and grow in both confidence and character.

How to Get Involved

There are two main ways to become involved in the Mentor Program.

Parents who would like to refer their child to the program can reach out directly to their child’s teacher. The school team will then guide the process and help make the right mentor connection.

Adults from the community or district who are interested in serving as a mentor are invited to apply. Mentors play an important role in supporting our students, and we welcome individuals who are ready to make a positive difference.
