Information on ECC Green Bus - 11/29/18

November 29, 2018

Dear Early Childhood Center Parents,

This letter is sent to inform you that your child’s school bus experienced mechanical difficulties on the way to the CCSD93 Early Childhood Center today. It is not intended to alarm you.

Just north of Thunderbird Trail on Kuhn Road, the ECC Green Bus’s engine began to overheat and the bus needed to pull over. The driver notified the bus company, which quickly informed the school and called for their company maintenance team as well as for a backup bus for students.

I traveled to the scene immediately and was met there by CCSD93 Associate Superintendent Dr. David Hill. During this time, students remained buckled in their seats, and we requested assistance from the Carol Stream Police Department to help block traffic as students would be transferred to a new bus.

The maintenance team added coolant to the engine to enable the bus to pull off onto a side street. At that point, the new bus, which runs another ECC route and is fully equipped with proper seatbelts, arrived for students.

Each student was transferred to the new bus holding the hand of an adult.
I followed the bus back to school, and all children on the bus arrived at the ECC just before 9 a.m. in good spirits. Throughout the morning we described the situation to the children as an adventure and praised them for waiting nicely and staying safely in their seat belts.

Student safety is our highest priority, and I thank the bus company, Dr. Hill, and the Carol Stream Police Department for joining me in ensuring student safety throughout this situation.

If you have questions or concerns about this incident, please contact the CCSD93 Early Childhood Center at 630-307-3750.  As always, thank you for partnering with us to ensure student success.

Sincerely,

Rosary Horne
Principal
CCSD93 Early Childhood Center
