A Note to the Jay Stream Middle School Community - 8/30/19

August 30, 2019

Dear Jay Stream Middle School Community,

This message is being sent to inform you of a situation involving Jay Stream Middle School and is not intended to alarm you.

At 8:58 a.m. today, I was notified by the Carol Stream Police Department that they had just received a call from a community member who had observed a suspicious looking person dressed entirely in black near Jay Stream’s school grounds, outside of the school. Immediately, officers from the Carol Stream Police Department arrived and inspected the perimeter of the building, not finding the person in question.

Simultaneously, off of school grounds, separate officers made contact with a person matching the description. They quickly determined that it was a community member who had happened to be in the area of the school, and that there was no ill intent in the person’s actions. At no time were any Jay Stream students or staff members in any danger.

While this was a false alarm, we appreciate our community’s vigilance in contributing to the safety of our students and staff members. Student and staff safety is our primary concern, and we ask that you and your children do not hesitate to contact our school or the Carol Stream Police Department if you ever observe anything that you feel is suspicious or out of place.

We value our relationship with the Carol Stream Police Department and we thank them for their quick reaction to this situation.

We know that students, parents, and/or community members may have observed the police presence at Jay Stream Middle School today, and we want to ensure you have complete, accurate information on this matter. Please feel free to contact me at pietroc@ccsd93.com or 630-588-5200 if you have any questions or concerns about this situation.

Sincerely,

Chris Pietroski
