The purpose of this letter is to inform you of a situation that occurred today at Roy DeShane School. It is not intended to alarm you. Today a student brought a kitchen knife to school. No students were physically harmed by the knife, and as soon the student’s teacher was made aware of its presence by another student, the teacher was able to confiscate it without incident.
Roy DeShane School is now working with the student and the student’s family to handle the situation.
Roy DeShane School will not tolerate a knife or any weapon being brought to school. Students involved in any situation involving weapons will be provided with appropriate consequences.
Student safety is our highest priority, and I encourage you to take this opportunity to reinforce the following safety tips with your child:
- Knives and weapons of any type are dangerous and are not jokes. The presence of such a weapon on school grounds will be taken seriously and not tolerated. - A student should inform an adult, either in person or through our SafeSchools Alert tip reporting system, if he or she sees or comes in contact with any type of knife or other weapon. More information on SafeSchools Alert can be found on our website at ccsd93.com/roydeshane. - A student should seek help immediately from an adult or call 9-1-1 if he or she senses any type of dangerous situation.
