An Important Note to Stratford Middle School Parents 9/17/19

September 17, 2019

Dear Stratford Middle School Parents,

The purpose of this letter is not to alarm you but to keep you informed of two separate incidents involving Stratford Middle School.

Yesterday evening, a parent shared a concerning social media post from a student with Stratford’s administration. Because the post had been made off of school grounds, outside of school hours, and did not contain any information related to Stratford or other students, I shared the information with the Bloomingdale Police Department and it became a police matter.

Separately, the Bloomingdale Police Department posted a news release this morning regarding an unrelated threat to a middle school outside of CCSD93’s boundaries. As a result, you may have noticed that today the Bloomingdale Police Department maintained a presence near multiple area middle schools, including Stratford Middle School, as a precaution. I want to assure you that there was no imminent threat to any Stratford student or staff member. We appreciate the Bloomingdale Police Department taking proactive steps to keep our community and school safe.

In light of these events, I ask parents to take this opportunity to reinforce the following safety tips with students:

- Safety and security within any community is the responsibility of everyone in that community.

- Whether on or off of school grounds, students should seek help immediately from an adult, or call 9-1-1, if he or she senses any type of dangerous situation.

- Threats to the safety of any person or persons are dangerous and are not jokes. Any threat related to the school will be taken very seriously, investigated, and will not be tolerated. Students involved in making threatening statements will receive appropriate consequences from the school and may face legal repercussions.

- A student should inform an adult, either in person or through our Safe School Helpline safety tip reporting system, if he or she becomes aware of any type of threat or unsafe circumstance. More information on the Safe School Helpline can be found at

The safety of all of those within our building will always be our utmost priority.

I appreciate your continued support as we seek to maintain the safest community possible. If you have questions about the contents of this letter, please contact me at or 630-671-4300.
