Important PSAT Testing Info for Your 8th Grader on 10/14/23

Dear Parents of Stratford Middle School,

This is a reminder that as part of your child’s eventual transition to high school, they will be expected to participate in the PSAT8 assessment, which will take place at Stratford Middle School on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 8:00-11:00 a.m. It is critical that your child participates in this assessment as it will impact their 9th grade course recommendations. Please ensure that you and your child review and understand the following schedule, requirement and assessment format information.

Complete Schedule for Saturday, October 14, 2023

  • 8:00 a.m. - Student arrival, check in, and testing 
  • 8:15 a.m. - School doors are locked; students arriving at or after this time will not be allowed to test
  • 11:00 a.m. - Student pick up time - NOTE, THIS IS EARLIER THAN SHARED IN OUR MESSAGE A FEW WEEKS AGO BECAUSE STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE A PORTION OF TESTING DURING SCHOOL.

Student Requirements

  • It is critical that students charge and bring their MacBooks on October 14th.
  • Cell phones and smartwatches are not allowed in the classroom while testing. We strongly recommend that students do not bring them to the assessment. Any student who does bring these devices will be required to store them in separate space until the conclusion of the testing. Families should also be aware that if electronic devices are found on a student during testing, that is grounds for invalidating the test session for that student.

Assessment Format

The PSAT8 is a digital assessment. It consists of 2 sections:

  1. Reading
  2. Math

Most of the questions are multiple choice, although some of the math questions will ask your student to type in the answer rather than select it. Breaks are built into the testing window.

More Information

  • CCSD93 is unable to provide transportation to or from school for this testing. Please arrange transportation for your child. 
  • Prior to testing, students should:
    • Get a good night's rest.
    • Eat breakfast before leaving the house.
  • Students should bring:
    • Their MacBook, as described above.
    • Pencils for use on provided scratch paper.
    • A filled water bottle, no snacks.
    • We STRONGLY recommend that students bring a book to the test to read if they complete the test early. Students will not be allowed to leave the testing space or engage with electronic devices (e.g. cell phones, smartwatches, etc.) beyond their secured testing web browser until the testing period is complete.
  • We will follow up with you with more information regarding accessing your child’s scores.
  • This assessment will be the first of a series of PSAT assessments that will culminate in the SAT taken during 11th grade, as shown in this graphic:

Estimados padres de Stratford,

Este es un recordatorio de que com parte de la eventual transición de su hijo a la escuela secundaria, se espera que participe en la evaluación PSAT8, que se llevará a cabo en Stratford Middle School el sábado 14 de octubre de 2023 de 8:00 a 11:00 a. m. Es fundamental que su hijo participe en esta evaluación, ya que afectará sus recomendaciones de cursos de noveno grado. Asegúrese de que usted y su hijo revisen y comprendan la siguiente información sobre el cronograma, los requisitos y el formato de evaluación.

Agenda completa para el sábado 14 de octubre de 2023

  • 8:00 a. m. - Llegada de los estudiantes, registro y pruebas.
  • 8:15 a. m. - Las puertas de la escuela están cerradas; Los estudiantes que lleguen a esta hora o después no podrán realizar el examen.
  • 11:00 a.m. - Hora de recogida de los estudiantes - NOTA, ESTO ES ANTES DE LO COMPARTIDO EN NUESTRO MENSAJE HACE UNAS SEMANAS PORQUE LOS ESTUDIANTES PUDIERON COMPLETAR UNA PARTE DE LAS PRUEBAS DURANTE LA ESCUELA.

Requisitos del estudiante

  • Es fundamental que los estudiantes carguen y traigan sus Macbooks el 14 de octubre.
  • Los teléfonos celulares y relojes inteligentes no están permitidos en el salón de clases durante el examen. Recomendamos encarecidamente que los estudiantes no los traigan a la evaluación. Cualquier estudiante que traiga estos dispositivos deberá guardarlos en un espacio separado hasta la conclusión de la prueba. Las familias también deben tener en cuenta que si se encuentran dispositivos electrónicos en un estudiante durante el examen, eso es motivo para invalidar la sesión del examen para esealumno.

Formato de evaluación

El PSAT8 es una evaluación digital. Consta de 2 secciones:

  1. Lectura
  2. Matemáticas

La mayoría de las preguntas son de opción múltiple, aunque algunas de las preguntas de matemáticas le pedirán al estudiante que escriba la respuesta en lugar de seleccionarla. Los descansos están integrados en la ventana de prueba.

  • CCSD93 no puede proporcionar transporte hacia o desde la escuela para esta prueba. Por favor organice el transporte para su hijo.
  • Antes de realizar el examen, los estudiantes deben:
    • Descanse bien por la noche.
    • Desayuna antes de salir de casa.
  • Los estudiantes deben traer:
    • Su MacBook, como se describe arriba.
    • Lápices para usar en papel borrador proporcionado.
    • Una botella de agua llena, nada de snacks.
