School District 93 and Carol Stream Education Association Licensed Staff Agree To New Three-Year Contract
The Carol Stream Education Association (CSEA) and Community Consolidated School District 93 (CCSD93) have reached agreement on a new three-year contract, which concludes on June 30, 2024. CSEA membership ratified the contract on Monday, June 21, 2021. The CCSD93 Board of Education unanimously approved the contract at a special Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, June 22, 2021.
CSEA Co-President Alysia Johnsen said, “We are happy that the contract has been ratified, and appreciate the determination and hard work of the bargaining teams on both sides of the table. The members of the CSEA look forward to continuing to provide an education for the students of CCSD93 that focuses on both the social/emotional and academic needs of each student.”
In accordance with the new contract, CCSD93’s licensed staff (which consists of district-employed licensed teachers, innovation media specialists, social workers, speech/language pathologists, prevention coordinators, instructional coaches) will continue to devote 75 minutes after school one day per week to professional development that will help staff members remain on the forefront of educational strategies and resources while aligning instruction with the goals set forth by CCSD93’s Strategic Plan. Elementary and early childhood CSEA members will receive four personal plan times per week, an increase to their current three. Middle school CSEA members will receive five team plan times per week, an increase to their current four. According to the agreement, licensed staff on the salary schedule will receive a salary increase of 2.4 percent in 2021-22, 2.5 percent in 2022-23, and 2.6 percent in 2023-24.
CCSD93 Board President Keith Briggs expressed the Board’s appreciation for the work of both negotiating teams in coming to an agreement that will benefit student learning, saying, “This three-year agreement continues to provide unique opportunities for CCSD93 to meet the individual needs of each student and the goals of our Strategic Plan, which include providing a relevant education for all students while ensuring consistent growth for all. Members of both negotiating teams worked very hard to reach an agreement that addressed student instruction, professional development, retirement, and salary issues responsibly. On behalf of the Board of Education, I thank both the CSEA’s Bargaining Team and the CCSD93 Board of Education’s Bargaining Team for their commitment during the negotiation process.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Hill, noted, “I am pleased that both the CSEA and CCSD93 worked hard to balance our fiduciary responsibilities to our community with the continued ability to meet our mission of maximizing the academic, social and emotional potential of each student. This will continue to enable CCSD93 to prepare students for their futures, including an ever-evolving job market. I am extremely proud of the CSEA for their willingness to craft an agreement with the Board of Education that will enable District 93 to remain an excellent place for teaching and learning, and I am pleased with the outcome.”
