Birth To 5 Community Coalition
-
As a Birth to 5 Community Coalition, we must respond to a community imperative to help all children arrive at Kindergarten ready to access the high quality education that our school district is prepared to provide them. That goes beyond beginning academic skills. It requires that attention be given to the needs of the “whole child”. To that end, our coalition partners work together to identify the need and provide support in the areas of communication, cognition, social-emotional development, nutritional needs, and physical growth of children in our community, as well as coaching for parents. Priority is given to families who may experience barriers related to language, income level, limited or low level literacy skills, limited access to transportation, or unfamiliarity with processes related to accessing social/community services.
Community Consolidated School District 93 (CCSD93), in partnership with many community agencies and businesses, strives to work with children and families from birth to five to improve each student’s school readiness. Research supports increased access to resources and supports, building foundational skills from birth to five years old, which yields promising results in later years. This support to families and children requires a coordinated effort and delivery system between early care programs and schools.
CCSD93 is an elementary school district, which serves students in preschool through eighth grade from several communities. The majority of our families live in Carol Stream, Bloomingdale, and Hanover Park. CCSD93 is proud to serve a diverse student body across the district’s nine schools. The District’s Early Childhood Center houses classrooms for preschool students. K-5 students are taught at six elementary buildings: Carol Stream, Cloverdale, Elsie Johnson, Heritage Lakes, Roy DeShane, and Western Trails. Two middle schools, Jay Stream and Stratford, serve students in grade 6-8.
